Shovel Down National Archaeology Week 2005
July 2005 | The Shovel Down Project, Dartmoor, Devon
In 2005 as part of The Council for British Archaeology’s National Archaeology Week The Shovel Down Project held two events.
The first event was an Art and Archaeology workshop for Primary School Children from Lifton Primary School, Devon. Children got a chance to help out on an archaeological dig and also made some drawings, including an enormous rubbing of the inside of a Bronze Age roundhouse.
The second event was a workshop for Masters Students from Kingston University Department of Drawing Research. Students investigated the technical processes archaeologists use to draw on site, and responded to the environment of the Shovel Down excavations.
The workshops were supported by:
The Devon Arts in Schools Initiative (DAISI)
The Dartmoor National Park Authority
The National Campaign for Drawing
The Dartmoor Trust
